Tottenham have verbally agreed a move for Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi and are now working on a four-year contract for the 29-year-old, according to a report that says the club is pushing ahead with its summer rebuild.
The timing matters because Spurs have only just steadied themselves after a poor campaign. Joao Palhinha’s 1-0 winner over Everton on the final day preserved Premier League status, and that result has immediately fed into a market that now looks set to move quickly rather than cautiously.
Matteo Moretto said Tottenham had already reached a verbal understanding on Senesi and were drawing up the terms of a four-year deal, while also claiming the London club was getting ahead of several European giants. He added that Liverpool had shown interest in recent weeks, which helps explain why Spurs are treating the deal as one to secure before the competition sharpens.
That is where the story still has a wrinkle. Senesi is out of contract, which makes him a viable target on paper, but the report also leaves the deal short of being fully wrapped up by saying he is only reportedly close to agreeing terms. In other words, Tottenham may have the edge, but the paperwork still has to catch up with the noise around the move.
If the transfer is completed, Senesi could also figure in Tottenham’s longer-term defensive planning as a possible option to replace Cristian Romero if the Argentine captain departs. For now, the clearest sign of intent is the pace: Spurs are not waiting for the window to settle before trying to land a defender they believe they can secure ahead of rivals.
Elsewhere in Tottenham’s summer planning, Joao Palhinha is due to return to Bayern Munich after his 2025/26 loan spell, while GiveMeSport reports that Andy Robertson is expected to join on a free transfer from Liverpool after saying goodbye to supporters following the 1-1 draw with Brentford. The bigger picture is a club trying to rebuild fast, and Senesi now appears to be one of the first names pushed to the front of that effort.
