If accurate, it would be a first for the Bears and one of the most watched reveal moments in EA Sports’ football series.
People do not click on a Madden leak for a guessing game. They click because Williams finished 2025 with an 11-6 record, a first NFC North championship for Chicago since 2018, and a season that made him impossible to ignore: 3,942 passing yards, 27 touchdown passes, 388 rushing yards and a 58.1% completion rate.
That production gave the league a clear case for why his name belongs in the conversation. Williams finished seventh in the NFL in passing yards, sixth in passing touchdowns and seventh among quarterbacks in rushing yards. There is also the matter of what the image would mean in Chicago. A Bears quarterback on the main cover would mark a clean break from franchise history.
The catch is that the cover is still a leak, not a launch. EA Sports has not announced the Madden NFL 27 cover athlete, and the image that spread on Saturday came from MUTLeaks, a popular college football gaming profile on X with more than 125,000 followers. The same account also posted images that appeared to show the leaked cover of College Football 27, which adds weight to the buzz but does not make the Madden image official.
That is why the story is moving faster than the confirmation. If EA Sports does back the leak, Williams would become the first Bears player on the standard Madden cover and one of the biggest names in the game’s annual reveal. If it does not, the image will still have captured something real: how quickly Williams has gone from the Bears’ latest hope to the face fans think should be standing at the center of the NFL’s most recognizable video game.
