has told he is leaving, and now look poised to make him their fifth summer signing. The 21-year-old posted a farewell message on social media thanking teammates, staff and supporters, a clear sign the move is moving toward the finish line even if it has not yet been announced.

That is why Barco is suddenly on the radar again. Chelsea have already added Denner, Dastan Satpaev, Geovany Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha to the list of incoming players under , and Barco would extend that recruitment drive with another young left-sided option. Reports in April said Chelsea had already agreed terms with him ahead of a summer switch, and has given the deal his “Here We Go” treatment, but the formal announcement has still not arrived.

Barco’s farewell leaves little doubt about his next step. “Today I say goodbye to this club,” he wrote, adding that he “always gave everything on the pitch in every game for this shirt.” He thanked his team-mates for making things easier, and singled out , Gary O’Neil, the club staff and Strasbourg’s fans in a long message that sounded like a player closing the door on one chapter before opening another.

He arrived in France in January 2025 on loan from before Strasbourg signed him for £8 million, and he has largely been used as a left-back. Chelsea had already taken a similar approach with other young targets, announcing Denner in January 2025 for a move on 1 July after he turns 18, then Satpaev the next month, before moving on to Quenda and Emegha. Barco would fit the same pattern, and his arrival would also add pressure on at left-back.

The only unresolved part is the one that now matters most: if Barco has already said goodbye and the deal is lined up, what is still holding Chelsea back from making it official? He is 21, he has been named in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for World Cup 2026, and the move appears close enough that another club-facing announcement now feels like a matter of timing rather than doubt.
