Munster have named their team for Saturday’s URC quarter-final against Vodacom Bulls in Pretoria, with Fineen Wycherley set to make his 150th appearance for the province tomorrow. The match at Loftus Versfeld will begin at 12pm Irish time, 1pm local time, and the winner will move on to next week’s semi-final.
For Munster, it is a knockout stage that carries immediate consequence. Craig Casey will captain the side, with Mike Haley selected at full-back, as they go into a meeting that has been a regular feature of the URC calendar since the South African clubs entered the competition.
That familiarity is part of what gives this quarter-final its edge. Both Munster and the Bulls have repeatedly reached the knockout rounds over the five seasons since the four South African clubs joined the league, but only one team will be allowed to keep going from Pretoria. The other will be done for the season, no matter how often it has been here before.
The reward for the winner is already clear: a semi-final next week against Glasgow Warriors or Connacht. For Munster, the timing makes this more than a straight playoff tie. With Wycherley approaching a milestone and the team named, the province arrives in Pretoria with its path laid out in front of it and no room left for anything but the result.
The game will be shown live on Premier Sports, URC TV, SuperSport and Flo Rugby.
