Police revoked the Public Safety Preservation Act emergency declaration at Clontarf at 4.19pm, ending the emergency order that had covered streets around a unit on Weaber Street after reports of a fire.

The declaration had been made about 2.10pm, when police and emergency services were called to the unit and warned people to avoid the area. The exclusion zone included Watson Street, Isobel Street, Enoch Street, Gerald Avenue, Wendy Crescent, Bright Avenue and Cornelius Street, and residents inside it were told to stay indoors and close their windows until further notice.

The revocation matters because it lifted restrictions that had affected residents and motorists across several roads in the area, although police said some roads may still have been affected while the declaration was in place. Drivers were urged to avoid the area, drive to conditions and follow police direction.

What police did not say, even as the emergency order was lifted, was what caused the fire or what happened at the unit. That detail was still missing after the earlier update, and police gave no further information when the declaration was revoked.

Queensland Police News thanked the community for its assistance, but the main unanswered question remains the same one that first brought officers to Weaber Street: what started the fire inside the unit.
