Rodrigo Vera and Zhu Kangjie will make their UFC debuts against each other on Saturday at UFC Macau inside the Galaxy Arena, giving the card one of its sharpest newcomer matchups. The featherweights arrive with different recent paths but the same destination: a first walk to the Octagon.

The fight has already drawn interest because Vera is a slight betting favorite at -115, while Zhu is listed at -105 even though both men are debuting. That line reflects the view that Vera brings the more complete game into the bout, with striking and grappling both in his toolkit and a style that can lean heavily on the clinch.

That matters because Zhu is the kind of fighter who likes to stay upright. He won last year’s Road to UFC competition after three straight victories over Tatsuya Ando, Shin Haraguchi and Bin Xie, and had already beaten Min Hyuk Lee and Huwannixi Wusikenbieke before that run. Vera, by contrast, comes in as an FFC and LFA standout with only one pro loss, and a stretch of five outside-the-UFC wins over Carlos Eduardo, Cleverson Luiz, Arivaldo Lima da Silva, Jonathan Caetano and Joao Oliveira.

The style matchup points to how Vera may try to take the air out of Zhu’s best weapon. Zhu is a natural striker, but Vera is expected to look for grappling-heavy sequences, then work in the clinch where his knee strikes can target the head and body. There is also a path for Vera to attack Zhu’s lead leg, which is said to be planted heavily and could be open if the exchanges stay at range.

That is why the betting line is notable. A newcomer can be favored, but it is less common when both fighters are stepping into the UFC for the first time. Anatoly Pimentel put it plainly: he predicts a decision win for Vera over Zhu.

Saturday will answer the only question that now matters: whether Vera’s broader attack travels immediately or whether Zhu’s striking pedigree carries him through his UFC debut in Macau.
