Jenny Newby and Lee Riley have told fans the current series of Gogglebox is coming to an end, posting a farewell message on their joint Instagram account as the latest run winds down. The Hull pair, who first joined the show in 2014, said the final episode of the series had aired and thanked viewers for backing them through the full 16 weeks.
Lee Riley told followers: “Well guys, that's it, the last of the show this evening. I hope you've enjoyed all 16 weeks as much as we have. Thank you for all your support through this series.” Newby added: “Yeah and we hope to see you all again in August.” He later said they would be back at the end of August or September, giving regular viewers a short wait before the pair return to the sofa.
The farewell lands now because a best-of series 27 episode is due to air on Channel 4 on Friday, May 29 at 9pm. For fans who have followed the pair since 2014, the schedule marks the end of a familiar weekly routine before the show pauses for its usual break and comes back later in the summer or early autumn.
There is also a quieter note running alongside the goodbye. Studio Lambert has announced that former Gogglebox participant Ken Harwood has died aged 77, and said a tribute would be shown at the end of the episode aired earlier this month. Harwood appeared regularly on the programme from 2020 to 2022 with his wife Anne, and Riley’s own words in the earlier tribute underlined the scale of that loss: “He will be dearly missed by his wife Anne, sons Simon and Ross, daughter-in-law, Elle, grandchildren Freya and Tristram, and all who knew him.”
For Newby and Riley, the only unanswered detail is whether their return lands in August or September. What is clear is that viewers will not have to wait long, and the pair are already treating this as a temporary goodbye rather than a full stop.
