Kat Timpf said she is coming back to work today after taking time away to grieve the sudden death of her father, saying the past couple of weeks have been the hardest of her life. In an Instagram post, Timpf said she was ready to return to Gutfeld! and see whether the distraction helps.
“I’m letting you guys know that I’m coming back today to work,” Timpf said, adding, “This has been the hardest time of my life. It’s not close. It’s horrible.” She said her father died very unexpectedly at 69, and that she had been angry and sad while trying to absorb what happened.
Timpf said the loss feels especially sharp because she kept thinking about picking up the phone and calling him while she was off work. “My dad didn’t deserve this,” she said. “His grandson didn’t deserve this.” She added that her father “sacrificed a lot for all of his kids” and that she is “only where I am because of my dad.”
Her remarks also pointed to the role he played in her career. Timpf said her father “believed in me when no one else could or would,” and said she will spend the rest of her life trying to make him proud, both in her work and as a mother. She thanked people who had been kind to her through the grief and said she would try returning to her routine to see whether it helps.
The return comes after a previous update in which Timpf said her father had seemed strong and healthy before his unexpected death and was regularly going to the doctor. She said the loss was “completely suddenly, out of nowhere,” and called it “incomprehensible.” Timpf, who said she is 37 years old, also said this is not her first time losing a parent and that she has no parents left.
That is the tension in her return: a public face built on quick timing and sharp conversation now meeting a grief she says has no clean ending. Timpf said she is “probably never gonna get over it, honestly,” but still chose to go back on air, where she said she will see if the distraction helps.
