Jorge de Frutos grew up in a small village in Segovia where football was played on the frontón and work started early. Born in 1997 in Navares de Enmedio, he helped his parents in the family farm and in the local bar long before he became a professional player now with Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig for the Conference League final.
He has never hidden where he comes from. De Frutos said he helped his mother in the bar and had to lend a hand in his father’s pig farm, and that as a child there were so few youngsters in the village that the games often took place on the frontón because there were not enough children to make up teams. That upbringing is still visible in the way people talk about him at home, where he is often known as “el niño del bar.”
For De Frutos, the story is not just one of hard work but of family. He said his parents taught him respect, work and humility, values that shaped his path into federated football during adolescence after years of improvised matches in the village. The winger also keeps that life close: he shares photographs in his native village with his wife, Rocío Jarillo, and their son, a reminder that his rise has remained tied to the place where it began.
The personal milestones have come fast this year. In April 2025, De Frutos and Jarillo announced they were expecting two girls, writing that they had dreamed of the moment for a long time and were waiting for the little ones. On 20 June 2025, the couple married in Madrid, with a religious ceremony at the Basílica Pontificia de San Miguel in the city centre before the celebration moved to El Cortijo de Mónico. Their eldest son was present as a witness.
That private chapter now sits beside a public one in Leipzig, where Rayo Vallecano is chasing the final of the Conference League with De Frutos among the players involved. The contrast is striking: a footballer who arrived from a hamlet of only a few streets, bar work and pig farms, now part of a continental final on one of the season’s biggest nights. His rise does not erase the village story. It gives it a much bigger stage.
