A large fire broke out on Wednesday morning at a kosher supermarket in Golders Green, north London, sending around 70 firefighters and ten engines to the scene. The said the first of 33 calls came in at 6.47am, while 56 reports of a fire on Golders Green Road were logged around the same time. Firefighters from Finchley, Willesden, West Hampstead and surrounding stations were sent, along with a 32-metre turntable ladder, as road closures were put in place near the junction with Beverley Gardens.

The fire appeared to have started behind Jewish supermarket , which sits in a three-storey building with a shop on the ground floor and premises above. The brigade said the blaze was producing a significant amount of smoke and advised people in the area to keep their windows and doors shut.

The cause of the fire was still unknown on Wednesday, leaving investigators to determine how the blaze began at the commercial property. For now, the immediate task was containment: keep the fire from spreading, keep the road clear, and get the smoke away from homes and businesses in one of north London’s busiest Jewish neighbourhoods.
