Universal Orlando is pulling Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure out of its Express Pass program on July 1, 2026, reversing a change that had let guests use the paid queue on one of the resort’s most in-demand rides. The decision comes after the attraction spent nearly a year in the system, with Express access first added on May 30, 2025.
The ride sits in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure and has been one of the park’s most difficult attractions to ride without a long wait. The coaster opened in 2019, stretches nearly 1 mile, is the longest coaster in Florida and regularly posts average waits above 100 minutes a day.
That is why the Express move mattered the moment Universal made it. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure has long drawn some of the longest lines in the park, and Universal had already used a Virtual Line to control crowds when demand got too high. Adding Express Pass was supposed to make the ride easier to access for guests willing to pay for it. Instead, it pushed more people into the standby line and left that queue moving more slowly. Even the Express line was not always quick; waits there could still stretch beyond an hour.
The change also sets up a familiar Universal problem: how to sell more access without making the most popular attraction less appealing to everyone else. Hagrid’s remained part of Express Pass for nearly a year, long enough for guests to see how the system worked and long enough for the standby line to feel the impact. Its removal suggests Universal is moving back toward tighter crowd control on a ride that has never behaved like a normal theme park coaster.
For visitors, the practical effect is straightforward. After July 1, 2026, Express Pass will no longer be an option for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, and anyone hoping to ride will have to rely on standby or whatever crowd-management method Universal uses instead. For one of the most popular attractions in Orlando, that means the line is likely to remain the story.
