Bungie said Destiny 2 will receive its final live-service content update on June 9, 2026, as the studio says the time has come for Destiny and its shared worlds to live beyond Destiny 2. The update, called Destiny 2: Monument of Triumph, will be available to all players.
The studio said it is turning its focus toward a new beginning and will begin incubating its next games. It added that active development may be winding down, but Destiny 2 will remain playable. For players still logging in, the final update is being framed as a send-off that keeps the game open while closing the chapter on full-scale live support.
Bungie said the release will broaden Moments of Triumph celebrations by bringing together experiences from across Destiny 2. Legendary Marks will return and will unlock free armor ornaments, accessories, weapon engrams and other rewards. Players who complete a wide range of deeds will also be able to earn an additional Title and an armor ornament set, giving the farewell update a clear incentive beyond nostalgia.
That makes June 9 the key date for both the game’s future and its history. Bungie said it is aiming to deliver a collection of updates across all activity types in Destiny 2 that day, a final pass meant to make the game a welcoming place for players to come back to. The wording puts the emphasis on access and celebration, not abandonment, even as the studio prepares to move on.
The comparison Bungie offered was the original Destiny, which it cited as a model for how Destiny 2 will be maintained after active development ends. In practice, that means the game is not disappearing. It is shifting into a kept-alive state, with the final update designed to bring together the landmarks, rewards and accomplishments that defined nearly twelve years of work in the Destiny universe.
For Bungie, the announcement marks more than an end date. It is the point at which one era closes and the next starts, with Destiny 2 kept playable for the people who have stayed with it and the studio preparing to build something new.
