One person is suspected to have been killed after a fire tore through a trailer in Cedar City on Sunday afternoon, then spread to a neighboring home and damaged nearby vehicles and property.

Crews were called just after 12:30 p.m. to the area near 1027 N. Main, where firefighters found a trailer home fully engulfed in flames. said investigators believe there may be one deceased victim associated with the fire, but they have not released identifying information pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. Police did not say whether the person was believed to have been in the trailer where the fire started or in a neighboring property.

The fire left a broader scene of damage than the first call suggested. Several vehicles were damaged, along with neighboring properties, as crews worked to keep the blaze from spreading farther. Two officers were taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation as a precaution and later released.

The state fire marshal is now leading the investigation. That inquiry will have to answer the most important unresolved question from Sunday’s fire: where the suspected victim was when the flames broke out.

Cedar City police said they were thankful for the cooperation and patience shown by community members during the response and investigation.
