The White Sox are reportedly calling up utility prospect Rikuu Nishida from Triple-A Charlotte, and sources told FutureSox and JustBB_Media that the 25-year-old is expected to join the club in Chicago tomorrow for his debut. The team has not yet made the promotion official.
Ian Eskridge of FutureSox was first to report the move, and CHSN’s Chuck Garfien also confirmed the promotion. Joe Binder called it a developing story and said more was coming.
Nishida, selected by the White Sox in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of Oregon, opened the 2026 season at Double-A Birmingham before earning a mid-April promotion to Charlotte. He has moved quickly since then, hitting.342/.449/.392 in 32 games with the Knights, with three doubles, one home run and nine RBI. He also posted a.454 on-base percentage and an.849 OPS in Triple-A.
The profile fits the way the White Sox have used Nishida throughout his rise. Power is not a major part of his game, but he brings defensive versatility and aggressive baserunning, traits that can make a utility player useful even without loud numbers. For a club looking for help now, his combination of on-base ability and flexibility appears to be the reason he is getting the call.
The only thing missing is the official announcement, but the timing points to a debut that could come quickly once the team makes the move public. If Nishida arrives as expected, Chicago will get its first look at whether his game translates from a productive Triple-A stretch to the majors.
