A 15-year-old boy went missing in Swanholme Lakes in Lincoln on Sunday after emergency crews were called to reports that he had got into difficulty in the water at about 14:30 BST. said the boy had not been located by the time officers and rescuers reached the scene, despite the efforts of people at the lake and the emergency services.

Police said their search of the lake was continuing and that their would join the operation. They also said the boy’s family had been informed and urged the public not to speculate while the search remained active.

The missing boy has not been named. Swanholme Lakes is a local nature reserve and a nationally recognised Site of Special Scientific Interest, about three miles from Lincoln city centre. On Sunday, Lincoln was among the places where temperatures reached about 25C as the UK recorded what was provisionally the hottest May day in 79 years, making the water a busy and potentially dangerous place for a young person to get into trouble.

The police account also pushed back against reports that the boy had been found. Officers said he remained missing and that information circulating to the contrary was wrong. That leaves the search at a critical stage, with specialist divers and search teams now being brought in to help determine what happened in the lake after the afternoon call for help.
