Daytona International Speedway is getting a major technological upgrade, with a new LED lighting system set to wrap the 2 1/2-mile track, road course, infield and pit road. The project, which NASCAR says is being developed with Musco, is expected to be completed by January 2027.
The new system is designed to do more than simply brighten the venue. NASCAR says it will create dynamic, visually engaging moments during race events, while delivering brighter and more consistent illumination for competitors and race teams. Emergency lights will also be LEDs, with accent lighting synchronized with caution lights.
Ben Kennedy said the project shows NASCAR’s continued commitment to reinvesting in its facilities and improving the overall experience for fans at Daytona and viewers watching around the world. He said the new LED lighting system at Daytona International Speedway underscores that effort, as the sport looks to elevate both the in-person atmosphere and television coverage.
The upgrade also carries a practical payoff. NASCAR says the initiative is expected to cut energy consumption by about 50%, a step that fits with its goal of reaching net zero operating emissions by 2035. That makes the lighting project part of a broader push inside the sport, not just a cosmetic change at one of its most recognizable tracks.
Daytona is no ordinary facility. The Florida speedway is one of NASCAR’s iconic venues, and this will be its first major renovation since the $400 million Daytona Rising overhaul was completed in 2013. That earlier project reshaped the fan experience; the new one is aimed at how the track looks, performs and broadcasts in the years ahead.
The timing matters because NASCAR is trying to modernize a landmark venue without losing what makes it familiar to fans. The lights are meant to make the racing easier to see and the event easier to sell on television, but they also signal a longer-term shift in how the series is approaching its facilities. By January 2027, Daytona could look different in the moments that matter most.
