Isabel Marant and Havaianas will unveil their first summer collaboration on May 22, a four-style flip-flop collection that moves from tie-dyed pairs to studded sandals. Vogue Shopping readers will be able to shop the drop 48 hours before anyone else.
Havaianas approached Marant with the idea first, and the designer said she was already a longtime wearer of the Brazilian footwear brand. She described the sandals as “the Brazilian quintessence of joy, freedom, and summer nonchalance,” a line that fits the easygoing role flip-flops have played in warm-weather dressing for decades.
Two of the four styles push the silhouette closer to Marant’s signature look, with sturdier soles wrapped in soft leather and finished with chunky rounded metallic studs. The collection also includes bohemian-inspired prints, a nod to the designer’s familiar mix of polish and ease. The launch places a familiar beach shoe in a more fashion-forward frame, but without stripping away the comfort that made it a staple in the first place.
Marant said the goal was to make something simple but luxurious, a flip-flop that could work from beach to town and even into a party. She suggested wearing them with a nice bathing suit and a pareo, or with a T-shirt and fluid trousers or jeans. “I’ve always loved flip-flops,” she said, adding that they should stay in fashion because of their easygoing vibe and the comfort and freedom they bring.
The timing matters because the collaboration lands at the start of summer shopping, when buyers are looking for pieces that feel both practical and fresh. With only four styles in the debut and early access limited to a 48-hour window, the release is being positioned as a quick-hit fashion moment rather than a sprawling seasonal launch. That gives the collection an urgency that matches its brief: easy to wear, easy to style and aimed squarely at the months when people want their clothes to work as hard as their plans do.
