Calvin Harris received the PRS for Music Icon Award at the 2026 Ivor Novello Awards in London on Thursday, taking one of the night’s top honours as the industry gathered at Grosvenor House for the 71st edition of the ceremony.
Mike Pickering presented the award to Harris on stage, placing the Scottish DJ, producer and songwriter at the center of an evening that recognised 16 songwriters and composers across 14 categories. The Ivors Academy described Harris as one of the most successful and influential figures in modern music, saying he has spent two decades helping shape the sound of contemporary dance and pop and has established himself as one of the most impactful producers and songwriters of his generation.
The honor landed on a night that mixed career-defining tributes with newer voices. George Michael was awarded Fellowship of the Ivors Academy 10 years after his passing, with Andrew Ridgeley collecting the award on his behalf. That recognition sat alongside wins for Fraser T Smith and Kae Tempest, who won Best Contemporary Song for “I Stand on the Line.” The result marked Tempest’s second Ivor Novello Awards win and Smith’s fourth. Linda Perry received the Special International Award with Amazon Music, David Holmes and Brian Irvine won Best Television Soundtrack for their score to Trespasses, and Jacob Alon took Best Song Musically and Lyrically for “Don’t Fall Asleep.” Kano was also recognised with the Visionary Award with Amazon Music.
The Ivors, first established in 1956, are presented by The Ivors Academy and are billed as the most prestigious awards ceremony celebrating songwriting and screen composition. This year’s ceremony was the 71st Ivor Novello Awards, and 37% of the recipients were first-time winners, a sign that the event continues to make room for new names even as it honours established figures. For Harris, the award confirmed what the academy was already saying out loud: his influence is not confined to dance floors or charts, but to the sound of the last 20 years of British and global pop.
The bigger significance of the night was not just that Harris was honoured, but that the academy used its stage to underline who has lasted.
