Austin FC II kept rolling Friday night at Victory Field, scoring twice before halftime and adding another after the break in a 3-0 win over Sporting Kansas City II. Diego Abarca opened the scoring in the 14th minute, Ibrahima Sall doubled the lead in the 24th, and Marcel Ruszel finished the job in the 66th.
Sporting Kansas City II, which entered the match at 2-9-3 with 10 points, had an early chance to steady itself when Jacob Molinaro turned away a shot from Sall three minutes into the match. But Austin FC II controlled the key moments from there, and the hosts never recovered after Abarca ran onto a ball played over the top by Riley Thomas and finished from close range.
The second goal carried the tone of the night even further. Jorge Alastuey sent in a low cross in the 24th minute, and Sall dove to meet it for Austin FC II’s second. Sporting Kansas City II had a brief response in the 27th minute when Missael Rodriguez hit the right side of the woodwork, but the chance came and went without changing the match’s direction.
There were other signs of resistance. Sam Worcester made his professional debut when he replaced Daniel Russo, a small moment for a team still looking for something to build on. But Austin FC II kept the pressure on, and in the 66th minute Stefan Dobrijevic supplied the cross that Ruszel tapped in for the third goal.
The result extended Austin FC II’s unbeaten run to 10 and left it at 7-1-3 with 25 points, a mark that shows how quickly the group has separated itself from the bottom of the table. Sporting Kansas City II, meanwhile, remains stuck on 10 points and will next face Real Monarchs in Herriman, Utah, on Friday night at 9 p.m. CT. For a side already searching for momentum, the margin for error is getting smaller by the week.
