Gendarmes from the stopped a motorist at 180 km/h on the A16 in the Oise, where the speed limit is 130 km/h. The driver’s speed was retained at 171 km/h.

During the stop, the officers found two cannabis plants inside the vehicle, and the driver also tested positive for alcohol. His alcohol level was measured at 0.31 mg/l of exhaled air, above the legal limit of 0.25 mg/l.

The intervention took place near Beauvais on the A16 in the Oise, where road safety remains a pressing issue. In 2025, alcohol has become one of the leading causes of fatal accidents on roads in the department, making the case another stark example of the risks that authorities say they are trying to curb.

After the control, the gendarmes posted a prevention message on their Facebook page, turning the stop into a warning for other drivers. The motorist will have to answer for his actions in court, with the combined findings of speeding, alcohol and cannabis plants leaving little room for defense.
