found a plastic bag near the front gate of her home in Brazil one morning late last year and opened it to discover three frightened, abandoned puppies. One of them was , a tiny black pup so small she fit in the palm of Livery’s hand.

The scene was not isolated. Several neighbors had also found bags of puppies left on their doorsteps, and in all there were 10 abandoned puppies. Local animal rescuers from were alerted and stepped in to track down the puppies’ mother and keep the family together under their care.

By the time the puppies were old enough to be adopted, Livery brought Athena home. Her growth, shown from 6 days to 5 months, tells the rest of the story: from a fragile newborn to a dog Livery now describes as impossible to miss. “Little Athena has grown into a giant!” she said, adding that watching her grow up has been “a unique and rewarding experience.”

Livery said Athena is “very affectionate and super loving,” and added that she has “a playful nature but is incredibly gentle.” The rescue ended the way every case like this hopes to end: all 10 abandoned puppies have now been adopted into loving homes, and their mother has been adopted too. For Livery, the answer to what happened to the palm-sized puppy is plain enough. Athena did not just survive; she found a place where she was wanted.
