has sold his Berwick home for $1.63 million after 25 days on the market, and the buyer asked for a personal tour from the Hawthorn great to learn how everything in the house worked.

The four-bedroom family home had been owned by Tuck and his wife Fay for almost 20 years, after he settled there when his playing career ended. The buyer, , said the home caught his attention after a story in the ran in early May. “I live in Bayswater, and never thought I would buy in Berwick, but when we saw this house and the article … we just fell in love with it straight away,” he said.

Dave also said one condition of the purchase was that Tuck would walk them through the property. “One of the clauses was that Michael shows us around the property and how to use everything. And he was very happy to do that,” he said. He added that the home’s football history mattered to them: “So, to know that it is a Hawthorn players’ house with history is important to us.”

The sale closes a long chapter for a 426-game veteran who was one of Hawthorn’s defining figures. Tuck played in seven premiership wins for the club and captained four of them. He also held the AFL and VFL record for most games played until passed him in 2016.

The Berwick property itself reflected that history. Set on an 899sq m block, it includes a pool, sauna, balcony, deck, multiple entertainment spaces, exposed brickwork, timber beams and views across Berwick. One of the living spaces even carries a mural featuring Tuck, a reminder that this was never just another suburban house.

The sale also keeps the Tuck name tied to a wider football family, with being the sister of Geelong legend Gary Ablett Senior. For the buyer, though, the appeal was simpler: a home with character, a famous previous owner and a piece of Hawthorn history still built into the walls.
