Police say Stewart McLean, 45, who was last seen in Lions Bay on May 15, is now believed to have been the victim of a homicide. Mounties said Thursday they had found evidence that suggests McLean was killed, four days after he was reported missing to Squamish RCMP and two days after investigators appealed to the public for help.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took over the case on Wednesday, as the search for answers shifted from a missing-person inquiry to a homicide probe. On Tuesday, officers said they were concerned for McLean’s health and well-being and asked anyone with information to come forward.
McLean lived in Lions Bay, a community on the Sea to Sky corridor north of Vancouver. According to his IMDB profile, he was an actor and producer known for roles in Beyond, Travelers, Virgin River and Murder in a Small Town.
The new finding leaves police with a sharper but still narrow task: determining what happened after McLean was last seen on May 15 and who was responsible. Investigators have not said what evidence led them to the homicide conclusion, but the case now sits with the province’s homicide team, a clear sign that the missing-person search has become something far more serious.
