A Hartselle man was arrested Wednesday evening after a traffic stop turned into a pursuit that ended with a in downtown Huntsville. Police said the incident began around 6 p.m. when an officer saw a vehicle traveling well above the posted speed limit on Memorial Parkway near Martin Road.

The driver did not stop when officers tried to pull him over. Instead, the vehicle kept going north on Memorial Parkway before turning onto Clinton Avenue and eventually stopping in the 700 block of Clinton Avenue near Heart of Huntsville Drive. After the vehicle stopped, officers ordered the driver out, but police said he refused to comply, leading them to deploy a K-9 unit to help make the arrest.

The dog apprehended , 42, of Hartselle. Montgomery sustained minor injuries during the arrest, was treated and released from the hospital, and was then booked into jail.

Police said Montgomery faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol by 0.08 percent or more by weight of alcohol in blood, attempting to elude a police officer, and liquor-open container of alcohol in a vehicle. The arrest followed an observed speeding violation and a pursuit that moved from Memorial Parkway into downtown Huntsville before ending in the 700 block of Clinton Avenue.

That sequence left a brief but clear path from a routine traffic enforcement move to a downtown arrest, with the minor injuries treated quickly enough for Montgomery to be released from the hospital before booking.
