Sam and Jay are trying to save Woodstone Mansion from demolition in a new clip from the two-part Ghosts Season 5 finale, and they are doing it the only way they can think of: by asking that the house be named a historical landmark. The scene, revealed in a new clip, lands ahead of Thursday night’s finale and shows how far the couple is willing to go to keep the mansion standing.

In the clip, town historian Joe, played by James Austin Johnson, brushes off Woodstone as pretty “run of the mill” for mansions in the area. Sam pushes back by saying the property was recently sold to an “evil water conglomerate,” a line that makes the threat feel less abstract and more immediate. For Sam and Jay, the battle is no longer about preserving a family home. It is about stopping a buyer with plans that could erase the house that defines their lives.

Ghosts centers on Sam and Jay, played by Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar, a couple who inherit a rundown mansion in upstate New York and turn it into a bed & breakfast. After a near-death experience, Sam can suddenly see the ghosts who inhabit the house, giving the series its central twist and turning Woodstone into a place where the living and the dead are stuck sharing the same roof. Danielle Pinnock, Rebecca Wisocky, Brandon Scott Jones, Richie Moriarty, Asher Grodman, Román Zaragoza, Sheila Carrasco and Devan Chandler Long also star, with Joe Port and Joe Wiseman serving as executive producers.

The tension in the finale clip is that landmark status sounds like a neat legal fix, but Joe’s dismissal suggests Woodstone may not inspire the kind of reverence Sam and Jay need. That leaves the couple with a problem bigger than paperwork: if the mansion is ordinary to everyone else, saving it will depend on making the case that it matters in ways the market does not recognize. Thursday night’s two-part finale will answer whether that argument gets them anywhere.
