is heading back into the role of The Jackal. said at its 2026 TV upfronts that Season 2 of The Day of the Jackal will premiere in 2027, with no specific date set yet.

The gap between seasons will be more than two years. Season 1 ended in December 2024, and the follow-up is already in production after filming started earlier this spring in Budapest.

Redmayne will again play the titular assassin, whose real name was revealed as Alexander Duggan. The new season also adds as a recurring villain, while and are set to appear in recurring roles that have not been disclosed.

That return comes after a strong first run for the thriller, which is inspired by Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 political novel The Day of the Jackal. The series follows a ruthless British assassin in a cat-and-mouse chase with an MI6 officer, played in season one by .

Season 1 began filming in June 2023, wrapped in the fall, and premiered in November 2024 before concluding the following month. It finished with an 85% Certified Fresh score from critics on and collected nominations for an Emmy, two Golden Globes, two Actor Awards and two Critics Choice Awards.

The long wait is the story’s biggest friction point. NBCUniversal is already treating the series as a continuing priority, but viewers will still be waiting over two years between seasons even as filming moves ahead in Budapest. The next chapter is not just confirmed — it is already in the works, and the clock is now running toward 2027.
