Luke Graham says he has no idea where he will be playing next season after a Dundee campaign that has drawn attention from across the Championship and beyond, with Rangers among the clubs tipped as a possible summer suitor.
The 22-year-old centre back said the speculation has followed him for months and has only intensified since January. In an interview with the Dundee Courier, Graham said it had been “non-stop really since January” with questions every week about his next move. He added that he had “really not got any idea” what the future holds and that his first aim was to “enjoy my summer” before putting football out of his mind for a while.
Graham’s name has been linked with several clubs as the window approaches, including Norwich City, while Derby are also said to admire him. Portsmouth reportedly had a £1.5m offer rejected in the January window, underlining how far the interest has already gone. The transfer window in Scotland and England is scheduled to open on June 15, and Graham looks set to be one of the names discussed again as that date gets closer.
The defender’s rise has been built on a stand-out season in the Scottish Premiership, where he has established himself as a player under pressure and, for now, in demand. He is also a Scottish Under-21 international and was included in a pre-tournament training camp by Steve Clarke, having missed out on a late call-up to Scotland’s World Cup party.
That profile is why Dundee manager Steven Pressley was so open after the club’s Scottish Premiership finale against Aberdeen. Pressley said there was “a lot of interest” in Graham and warned supporters that it “might have been the last time” they saw him in a Dundee shirt. He also praised the way the player has handled the noise around his future, saying Graham’s performances and conduct had been an example to everyone.
For Dundee, the immediate question is whether they can hold on to a defender who has become the subject of repeated calls and fresh speculation. For Graham, the next few weeks are about keeping his head down, finishing the season he has just completed in his own words, and then waiting to see what happens when the market opens on June 15.
