Nick Morabito is set to make his major league debut Tuesday night when the Mets open the Citi Field leg of the Subway Series against the Nationals, with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 PM ET. The game will be televised on SNY and carried on Audacy Mets Radio WHSQ 880AM, the Audacy App and 92.3 HD2.
The Mets lined up Carson Benge in right field, Bo Bichette at shortstop, Juan Soto at designated hitter, Mark Vientos at first base, Marcus Semien at second base, Tyrone Taylor in center field, Morabito in left field, Brett Baty at third base and Luis Torrens at catcher. Washington countered with James Wood in right field, Luis Garcia at first base, Jose Tena at designated hitter, CJ Abrams at shortstop, Daylen Lile in left field, Dylan Crews in center field, Jorbit Vivas at third base, Drew Millas at catcher and Nasim Nunez at second base.
Christian Scott is listed to start the series opener this evening, giving the matchup a marquee pitching look to begin the home portion of the Subway Series. Huascar Brazobán will open the second game, a setup that keeps the early part of the series in motion as both clubs sort out their rotation plans.
Morabito's debut comes against a division rival in a game that already carries more weight because it is the first Citi Field meeting of the season between the clubs. The Nationals arrive with Wood in the middle of their order after his recent 3-for-6 showing with a late RBI in an extra-innings loss, while the Mets have leaned into a lineup that mixes established bats with a fresh look in the outfield.
That is the friction point of this opener: a debut on one side, a rivalry game on the other, and a series that begins with both lineups announced and the stage already set. For the Mets, the night is about getting through the first game cleanly and carrying that momentum into the rest of the Subway Series.
