A West Jordan home was heavily damaged Monday, May 18, 2026, after a fire started in a two-car garage and spread into the house. Crews responded to multiple calls just before 8:30 a.m. and found heavy black smoke inside the home and heavy flames coming from the garage.
Firefighters put water on the fire and worked to minimize the damage while they swept the interior of the home for any potential victims, said Chris Trevino. The home was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters also ventilated the home to clear smoke after the flames were brought under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no estimate for the damage was provided.
The early callout and the fact that the fire moved quickly from the garage into the house meant crews had to work two problems at once: stop the flames and make sure no one was inside. That search turned up no victims, but the fire still left the West Jordan home heavily damaged by the time the smoke cleared.
Investigators are now left to piece together how the blaze began in the garage and spread so fast through the home. For the family or owner, the next answer that matters is not just what sparked it, but how much of the house can be salvaged after a fire salt lake city response that started before the morning rush.
