Radio 2 listeners heard the wrong second hour of Elaine Paige on Sunday after a scheduling error led to a repeat of the previous week’s edition being broadcast.
The mistake was noticed quickly by listeners, who flagged it on social media, and the later apologised. A spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, due to a scheduling error, the incorrect second hour of the show was broadcast today.” The broadcaster said it was now looking into how it happened, and the correct version of the programme was later uploaded to Sounds.
Elaine Paige on Sunday is a pre recorded programme on Radio 2, and the error appears to have happened before transmission when the wrong audio was loaded into the system. That meant the second hour listeners heard on Sunday was not the intended edition, but a replay of the previous week’s show.
The said: “We apologise to listeners and are currently looking into how this occurred.” It added: “The correct programme is now available on Sounds.” Paige has not commented publicly on the incident.
The blunder will be unwelcome for a station that has had similar problems pointed out before by listeners. For those tuning in expecting the latest instalment of the long-running programme, the fix came only after the wrong edition had already gone out and been noticed online.
What matters now is whether the ’s review shows a one-off mistake in loading the audio or a wider fault in the broadcast process. For listeners, the immediate question has already been answered: the wrong show aired, the correct one is now available, and the broadcaster says it is investigating how it happened.
