have made former striker their first summer signing, bringing the 26-year-old back to the club where he started his career.

Morton was released by Worthing this month and has returned to Torquay, where he was a youth team player before the club shut its academy in 2015. His arrival gives Torquay an early addition after a month in which he became available and the club moved quickly to secure a player who knows the place from the inside.

Born in Torquay, Morton began at the club's academy before later spending time in the youth systems at Yeovil Town and West Bromwich Albion. From there, he built a senior career that included loan spells at , , Fleetwood Town and Peterborough United, followed by a permanent move to Fleetwood in the summer of 2022.

He later joined in January 2023, signed for Bristol Rovers in the autumn of 2024 and moved to Worthing at the start of this season. Across the EFL and National League, Morton has scored 34 goals in 173 career games, a record Torquay will hope can translate quickly as they begin shaping their squad for the months ahead.

The move also carries a neat symmetry: a player who left Torquay as a youngster now returns after a journey through league football and the non-league game, with a chance to settle back where his career first began. For Torquay, it is a statement of intent early in the summer; for Morton, it is a homecoming with unfinished business.
