The match carries an unusual edge before kickoff because Twente will give PSV an erehaag for the newly crowned landskampioen. Van den Brom said the gesture fits the occasion. “Dat respect heb je voor de kampioen, dat is niet meer dan normaal,” he said. He also expects a contest that matches the stakes: “Ik verwacht dat het zondag een mooie wedstrijd wordt tussen twee aanvallende ploegen.”
Twente will travel with a fit squad apart from Lars Unnerstall, the only player mentioned as not fit. That leaves the club with a strong hand for a game that could define its season, while PSV can end its title run in front of home supporters in a fixture that still has real consequences for the visitors.
Van den Brom said the squad has carried the Sparta win into this week’s training sessions. “Alles klopte rondom de wedstrijd tegen Sparta en dan mag je genieten en blij zijn,” he said. “Dat positieve gevoel neem je vervolgens mee naar de trainingen van deze week.” He also said, “Wij zitten er goed in en hebben vertrouwen,” before adding, “Met uiteraard respect voor PSV gaan we uit van onze eigen kracht.”
