Newcastle United are emerging as the front-runners to sign Lamine Camara this summer, with a growing belief that the Monaco midfielder is destined for St James’ Park if the right offer arrives. Liverpool also want the 22-year-old Senegal international, but Newcastle’s repeated scouting trips to France in 2026 have put them in a strong position.
Camara is contracted to Monaco until 2029 and is rated in the €45m bracket, underlining the size of the decision facing any club that wants him. He can play as either a No.6 or a No.8, has more than 50 senior caps for Senegal and has become one of Monaco’s most closely watched midfielders since joining in 2024.
Newcastle were among the clubs represented at the Stade Louis II to watch Monaco lose 1-0 to Lille, a game in which Camara and Maghnes Akliouche both played the full 90 minutes. Liverpool have watched Camara closely as well, while Manchester United and Arsenal have tracked him over a prolonged period. Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton, Brentford and West Ham have also monitored him extensively during the current campaign.
The latest reading from TEAMtalk is that Camara is regarded as a player of increasing interest, and that there is a strong expectation he is highly likely to move to England this summer if the right proposal lands. That leaves Monaco with a familiar problem: a long contract and a rising valuation on one side, and a Premier League market circling on the other.
Newcastle are searching for midfield reinforcements this summer, which is why their interest in Camara has sharpened. Liverpool’s presence in the race keeps the picture open, but the balance of scouting and momentum now points toward Tyneside as the most likely destination if Monaco decide to sell.
