Santa Clara women’s rowing closed its season with a ninth-place finish at the WCC Championship in Rancho Cordova, Calif., then got a postrace lift when Dominique Matthews and Frankie Park were named All-WCC.
The Broncos finished second in the 2V8 Petite Final and took third place in the Petite Finals with both their V8 and V4 boats, ending a championship day that marked the final chapter of their season.
Matthews’ selection gave her All-WCC recognition for the second year in a row. Park earned her first all-conference honor after the races, giving Santa Clara a pair of individual acknowledgments to go with the team’s result in Rancho Cordova.
That sequence matters because the honors came only after the championship races were complete, turning a season-ending meet into a final chance for two rowers to be recognized by the conference. For Santa Clara, the day produced both a team finish and individual validation at the same event.
The clean result on the water and the awards that followed leave the season with a split ending: a ninth-place finish in the team standings, but All-WCC recognition for Matthews and Park as the last word from the championship.
