For Atletico, the pressure is obvious. That result extended a run of six consecutive Serie A matches in which they have conceded, and it came just after Hulk left the club for Fluminense earlier this month. Even so, there have been signs of resistance at home: Atletico have won league matches against Sao Paulo and Athletico-PR in recent weeks.
The win in Fortaleza on penalties offered another reminder that Atletico can still survive tight moments. Everson made two saves in the shootout before converting the decisive penalty himself, after Kaua Pascini had forced penalties with a late goal in normal time. It was the sort of result that keeps a team alive in knockout football, but it does not solve the problems waiting in the league, where every dropped point now carries more weight.
Mirassol arrive with a similar split between cup progress and league trouble. They are 18th in Serie A with 13 points, and while they beat Corinthians 2-1 recently and drew 1-1 against Chapecoense, they still have not found enough consistency to climb clear of danger. Their cup victory over Bragantino was built on a 2-1 win that completed a 3-2 aggregate success, with Tiquinho Soares scoring his first goal for the club and Edson Carioca making another decisive contribution.
That result mattered because it showed Mirassol can still produce under pressure, but their away record remains a problem. They have conceded in every away league match so far this season, which is not the kind of pattern a side wants to carry into Arena MRV. The reverse fixture between these teams earlier this season ended 2-2 at Maiao, a reminder that there was little between them when they first met and little reason to expect a one-sided game now.
Both teams come into Saturday having advanced in the Copa do Brasil in the same week they meet in the league, and both still need points more urgently than praise. For Atletico, another home result would ease the tension around a team trying to stabilize after a poor defensive run and the loss of Hulk. For Mirassol, anything from a difficult trip would matter in a season where away games have repeatedly exposed them.
