Despaigne arrives on the other side of the cage with a different kind of momentum. He left the UFC in October 2024 and moved to Karate Combat, where he went 7-0 with six knockouts. He last fought in MMA in October 2024, carrying a 5-2 career record with five knockouts, and he began his MMA run with five consecutive victories before the UFC stint that ended 1-2 in 2024.

The contrast gives the opening bout of the card its shape. Dos Santos is the former heavyweight champion trying to prove he still belongs in a fast-changing fight game after a long absence, while Despaigne is the bigger, fresher finisher trying to use size and power to make the return short. If the numbers hold, the pressure sits squarely on dos Santos to survive the early storm; if they do not, the heavyweight opener could turn into a brief reminder that one clean shot can erase a lot of history.
