Anshul Kamboj endured a punishing night at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, conceding 63 runs in 2.4 overs as Chennai Super Kings were beaten by Lucknow Super Giants in Match 59 of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. Nicholas Pooran ended the chase of 188 by striking Kamboj for four successive sixes in the 17th over.
Kamboj was brought on in the third over, but his first over still cost 11 runs and the punishment only grew from there. Mitchell Marsh hit him for four successive sixes in the fifth over, and Pooran matched that in the 17th, leaving the seamer with figures of 0/63 from 2.4 overs.
The spell stood out for its scale as much as its timing. From 16 balls against Lucknow Super Giants, Kamboj conceded eight sixes and three fours, while also sending down four dot balls and giving away a three. It was the second-most expensive bowling figure by a Chennai Super Kings player in an IPL match, behind Khaleel Ahmed’s 0/65 in three overs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru in 2025.
The list of costly CSK spells also includes Lungi Ngidi’s 0/62 in four overs against Mumbai Indians in Delhi in 2021 and Shardul Thakur’s 2/61 in four overs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru in 2024. Kamboj also became only the second bowler to concede 60-plus runs in an IPL game while bowling three or fewer overs, underlining how rare the damage was.
One figure in particular placed the night in a wider tournament context. The eight sixes Kamboj conceded is the joint-most by a bowler in an IPL innings, matching the mark set by Yash Dayal against Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad in 2025. For Chennai, the match was a bruising reminder that one short spell can reshape a game long before the chase is complete.
