Coventry City have released seven players after confirming their retained list following promotion to the Premier League, with Jamie Allen among those leaving at the end of his contract.
Allen made 25 appearances for Frank Lampard's side this season and scored in a 3-1 win against Watford in the first half of the campaign. The midfielder has been at Coventry since 2019, when the club signed him from Burton for an undisclosed fee, and has made more than 180 appearances for the club in all competitions. Brad Collins, Conrad Ambursley, Charlie Finney, Jack James, Greg Sandiford Junior and Kai Yearn will also depart.
Coventry said it had the opportunity to acquire the registration of Brentford loanee Frank Onyeka on a permanent basis from July 1, giving the promoted club an early chance to strengthen for life in the top flight. Collins, who spent the season on loan at Burton after joining Coventry from Barnsley in 2023 for an undisclosed fee, is also among the players moving on after making 43 league appearances for the club.
The retained list is the first clear sign of how Coventry plan to shape the squad after promotion, with the club balancing departures against the players it expects to keep and the chance to add Onyeka on a permanent deal next month. Coventry added that it wanted to thank all departing players for their efforts during their time at the club and wished them well for the future.
