Harry Hall will tee off at 11:56 BST on Thursday when the 108th US PGA Championship begins at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
Hall is grouped with Francisco Bide and Ryan Gerard in the opening round, with Rory McIlroy set for 13:40 BST alongside Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth, and Bryson DeChambeau out at 13:18 with Rickie Fowler and Ludvig Aberg.
Scottie Scheffler starts his bid to defend the title at 19:05 with Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose, while Tommy Fleetwood goes out at 18:45 with Robert MacIntyre and Chris Gotterup. Last month, McIlroy defended his Masters title, and the tee sheet now puts him back in another major where the field will be measured against recent history as much as form.
The note that no player since Jack Nicklaus in 1975 has won the Masters and the PGA in the same year hangs over McIlroy’s start, but Thursday’s first round is also about more immediate pressure: Scheffler trying to hold onto the title he won a year ago, and a crowded draw that gives Hall, McIlroy and the rest no easy early test.
For Hall, the opening shot comes early and without the noise that surrounds the game’s biggest names. For the championship, it is the first turn of a week that will quickly separate those who are merely present from those who can survive the pace set at Aronimink.
