Andreas Christensen is back in FC Barcelone's squad for Wednesday night's trip to Deportivo Alavés, a return that comes more than four months after his last appearance and gives Hansi Flick another option for the 36e journée of Liga. The Danish defender, 30, was included in the 23-player group after receiving medical clearance, with kickoff set for 21:30.
Barça confirmed the news with a brief squad note: "Andreas Christensen ha recibido el alta médica y entra en la lista del #AlavésBarça". Christensen had not played since 21 December 2025, when a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and a series of other physical problems pulled him out of the side. Since joining FC Barcelone in 2022, he has missed 82 matches and appeared 97 times for the club.
The call-up matters because Barcelona are already Spanish champions, having secured the title on Sunday, and the final stretch of the season now carries a different target: the symbolic 100-point mark in Liga. Christensen could also still reach 100 appearances for the club if he features in any of the final three matches of the campaign.
That possibility is the real tension around his return. Barcelona have already banked the trophy, but Flick is still managing a squad that has spent much of the year adjusting to absences, and Christensen's reappearance is less about a single night in Vitoria than about whether he can finish the season healthy enough to matter again. For a player whose last months have been defined by rehabilitation, simply being back in the travelling party is the first sign that the end of that spell is finally in sight.
