Jaguar’s new 1,000hp-plus electric mega EV will come to market as the Jaguar Type 01, ending months of uncertainty over the name of the British marque’s most radical model in years. The car had previously been referred to as the Type 00, but camouflaged Type 01 prototypes are now due in Monaco this week, ahead of the Formula E weekend.
The change matters because Jaguar is not just renaming a car. It is attaching a naming system to an electric flagship that is meant to carry the brand into its next era, with the full production version expected to be revealed later in 2026, most likely in September. The badge shown sits where the bonnet meets the windscreen, and Jaguar describes it as a signature of future Jaguar.
Jaguar’s managing director, Rawdon Glover, said the company has reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before. He said the engineers have achieved a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, while still reflecting a unique provenance. In his telling, the Type 01 name is part of the story: the zero stands for zero exhaust emissions, and the one marks the first car of a new chapter.
The naming also reaches back to Jaguar’s own history. The company’s C-Type established Type as part of Jaguar nomenclature in 1951, and this new badge suggests the brand may be laying down a sequence for future EVs, potentially Type 02, Type 03 and beyond. That is a notable shift for a maker that has often relied on letter-based model names, but has not been known for exceptional nameplates.
There is still a gap between the camouflage and the finished car. The prototypes arriving in Monaco this week will show the shape and intent, but not the full production model that Jaguar says will follow later in 2026. For now, the clearest signal is the badge itself: a reset presented not as a concept for the distant future, but as the first public step in Jaguar’s new electric chapter.
